台中榮總院長許惠恒昨日表揚榮獲國家生技醫療品質獎的嗅覺醫學中心，肯定該中心對患者的協助與奉獻。

許惠恒舉例，一名55歲張先生11歲時，因為血管瘤曾經接受放射線治療，家就住在臭豆腐攤隔壁，經過攤位卻突然發現聞不到臭豆腐的味道，就醫檢查後確診是萎縮性鼻炎造成的的嗅覺喪失。

經過台中榮總耳鼻喉部嗅覺中心幫他控制鼻發炎狀況，再進行嗅覺藥物刺激治療，並進行嗅覺的訓練，目前已經從可以聞到花香菜香。

許惠恒表示，該院嗅覺醫學中心全台唯一經過勞保局指定的嗅覺鑑定單位，每年替超過一千名因嗅覺喪失問題國人治療，今年因提供特色醫療榮獲第19屆國家生技醫療品質獎「醫院特色醫療組」銅牌獎。
